ACADEMIC ETHICS – THE APPLIED ETHICS WE NEED

Два доклада представих по проблемите на академичната етика през последните месеци на 2022 г. – в Техническия университет-София и в Нов български университет. Обнадеждаващ е този интерес на академичната общност и сред хуманитаристите и етиците конкретно към моралните проблеми, възникващи в университета и важни за студентите, както и за общото бъдеще на всички.

ACADEMIC ETHICS – THE APPLIED ETHICS WE NEED

Abstract. Key problems of academic ethics as a type of applied ethics are analyzed in this paper. They are considered in the light of current expectations and requirements from Bulgarian higher education. Classic and current issues of academic ethics are stressed (divided?) and examined in two perspectives – applied-ethical and professional-ethical. The following questions are considered sequentially: academic (or scientific) ethics as a response to the need for ethical regulation of higher education today; the reasons for neglecting academic ethics; the characteristics of the academic community as a type of social contract and moral community; the status of academic freedom as a moral right; collegial relationships and the phenomenon of demoralization in the university, as well as the effectiveness of teaching academic ethics in the world and in our country today. The latter should be consistent with narrative pedagogy, dialogue as the main method, and be consistent with the students’ future profession.
